president to visit that newly democratic nation. good morning, i am mika bre zin ski along with joe scarborough. this is "way too early." we have a lot of news to talk about this monday morning, november 19th, including new violence in the middle east where the violence between syria and libya are threatening to be a whole new war. >> the benghazi investigation, when did the cia know it was a terror attack and why did the white house remove those rernss from u.n. ambassador susan rice's talking points. let's starts with the developing story out of the middle east this morning. we'll start there by telling you about the civilian casualties during the sixth day of rocket strikes between israel and gaza. 80 palestinians have been killed and 600 more injured. among them, 12 people killed last night including four women and four children when an israeli missile targeting a top

hamas leader leveled a three-story building. this morning, israeli forces backed by tanks are massed along the edge of the gaza border ready for a potential all out invasion. although president obama says it would be, quote, preferable to avoid a ground war, he is making support of israel clear. >> there's no country on earth that would tolerate missiles raining down on its citizens from outside its borders so we are fully supportive of israel's right to defend itself from missiles landing on people's homes and workplaces and potentially killing civilians. >> joining us now from gaza is nbc's reporter. what's the latest this morning? >> reporter: good morning, mika. they've pushed that up now over the past six days of fighting the death toll stands at 95 palestinians, 23 of them

children, more than 640 wounded palestinians since this conflict began last wednesday. one of the incidents you referred to and one that's drawing a lot of national media attention into what exactly happened when this family was killed. it took place sunday morning and it was the house of a top hamas official. in that house were several families. it was a three-story building with 12 people inside of it. all 12 people were killed. ten of those 12 were from a single family including four children and four women. now people here are extremely angered by it. they're saying this is the kind of disproportionate use of force that israel is using to exact a heavy toll on the palestinian population here. at the same time others are citing similar examples across gaza. there's still very much an ongoing operation here and there's anger building up at this type of violence. >> reporting from gaza.

thank you very much. joe? behind the scenes, egyptian president mow ham mi morsi said to be working on a peace with arab nations and hamas and israel on sunday. he's going to be hosting the u.n. secretary general later today. they've had negotiations in the past. morsi is said to be in favor of peaceful resolution but he has publicly backed the palestinian effort. last week's egypt prime minister visited with them and promised egypt's support and promised their actions would not go unnoticed. palestinian leaders have upped their demands in negotiations calling for the end of israel's five-year blockade on gaza and also calling for a pledge by israel not to fire on the territory again and an international deal ensuring that israel would keep its word. but back in the united states senator john mccain called for the u.s. to offer its own mediator to try to bring out a

permanent truce. >> the united states of america has got to push as hard as we can to resolve this israeli/palestinian issue. so many events hinge on making that process go forward. find someone even as high ranking, frankly, as former president bill clinton to go and be the negotiator. i know he'd hate me for saying that, but we need a person of enormous prestige and influence to have these parties sit down together as an honest broker, but we have a lot of work to do to regain some credibility because we're crumbling all over the middle east. any moment now president obama is set to touch down in cambodia, the second of two asian nations that no sitting u.s. president has visited before. first myanmar, a country rapid by transitioning from years of brutal military rule. president obama met with government officials as well as opposition leader aung san suu

kyi who spent decades under house arrest and subsequent election to parliament. myanmar, also known as burma, has sweeping change to renewed focus on tackling poverty and political oppression. speaking in thailand president obama brushed off criticism that his trip may have been premature. >> this is not an endorsement of the burmese government, this is an acknowledgment that there's a process underway inside that country that even a year and a half, two years ago nobody foresaw. but i don't think anybody's under any illusion that burma's arrived, that they're where they need to be. on the other hand, if we waited to engage until they had achieved a perfect democracy, my

suspicion is we would be waiting an awful long time. >> today president obama will meet with leaders of several southeast asian nations at a summit in cambodia's capital. the members of the congress are vowing to find out if a terrorist attack was to blame for the attack on benghazi and why that was removed from susan rice's talking points. rice said the attack was a reaction to an antiislamic video. they now know that david petraeus was confident almost immediately that terrorists were to blame. senator diane feinstein's insisting that there's no evidence that any political agenda was at play. >> do you believe that the president or anybody serving the president deliberately misled the american people about the true nature of this conflict for political reasons? >> no. no. >> absolutely not, senator? >> that's correct. this whole process is going to be checked out. we are going to find out who

made changes in the original statement. until we do, i really think it's unwarranted to make accusations. >> republican senator lindsey graham said he believed the issue is clearly linked to the presidential election and would have ruined the administration's narrative that al qaeda was on the run. >> why would you choose someone who had nothing to do with benghazi to tell us about benghazi? that's kind of odd. the president said, why pick on her, she didn't know anything about benghazi. she was the most politically compliant person they could find. i don't know what she knew, but i know the story she told was misleading. i don't know why it was misleading, but let me put this in context. would this white house mislead the american people about national security events? i think they might simply because when the bin laden raid occurred they leaked every detail about the raid. we heard a lot of details about classified information to make this president look good, so if they would leak classified information to make him look

good, would they withhold information to prevent him from looking bad? >> lindsey graham and john mccain are now proposing a special investigative committee to investigate the benghazi attack. other members say the senate can handle the job. >> budget negotiations are on hold this week as they head home for the thanksgiving holiday. they're optimistic about reaching a deal to avoid the so-called fiscal cliff. now house speaker nancy pelosi says she won't budge when it comes to tax cuts for the wealthy. that puts her at odds with john boehner. >> could you accept a deal that does not include tax rate increases for the wealthy? we've seen talk about a possible compromise that would leave rates the same but tax deductions for high income earners. is that something that's acceptable? >> no. >> not at all. >> the president made it clear in his campaign that there are not enough resources. what you described is a formula

and a blueprint for hampering a future. you cannot go forward -- you have to cut some investments. if you cut too many, you are hampering growth, you are hampering education and investments in the future. >> even thousands of miles away it appears president obama is still focused on negotiations. while touring a royal monastery with secretary of state clinton the president was overheard mentioning the budget talks to a monk. the president later clarified his comments at a news conference. >> i always believe in prayer. i believe in prayer when i go to church back home and if a buddhist monk is wishing me well, i'm going to take whatever good vibes he can give me to try to deal with some challenges back home. i'm confident that we can get

our fiscal situation dealt with. over the weekend president obama -- >> do you think they all have their own monk. >> maybe they should get one. i actually think they probably do. all right. the president spoke with five influential business leaders including warren buffet and apple's tim cook to get their look on the lopg-term deficit plan. interesting. >> the budget talks are weighing over wall street. companies are scaling back ahead of what could be a devastating combination of tax hikes and deep spending cuts. let's get the very latest from cnbc's karen cho. she is live in london for us. karen, what's going on? >> thanks very much, joe. there's been anecdotal evidence that u.s. companies have been scaling back. "the wall street journal" has gone out there and done a bit of investigation looking at the s.e.c. filings and taking the

turn from ceos and cfos and have come up with figures that half of the listed big corporate spenders have hit the brakes on spending this year. in particular we've seen it show up in equipment and software spending. this is flat line since 2009. this is seen as one of the sectors that's somewhat of a litmus test for economic activity out there. that is particularly concerning. but in terms of companies that were looking at the fiscal cliff, many are concerned that we'll see the economy fall off the cliff. all of this as demand has challenged from export markets in the like of the eurozone and china. it's no surprise we've seen the stock market reverse in recent days. we've seen the nasdaq down 9% in its worst losing streak so far since 2008. this is having a major effect on wall street and we'll see what the result is this week and whether there's any improvement as we come up to the thanksgiving period, guys. back over to you. >> karen tso live from london. thank you very much.
